Success at the Nationals

Dale Lang of Tawa and our very own Fiona McKinlay consult during the final end of their Finals game at the Nationals in Auckland.
Laurie Guy has kindly provided the following report on the Club's successes in Auckland:
I have just returned from the Nationals and although I didn't have a lot of success personally I would like to make a comment about the great result that both Paul and Fiona produced representing Hutt Bowling Club. I do not have the circulation list and with both Paul and Fiona being modest individuals I am hoping you might be able to include my brief report from the Nationals in one of your emails.
Before returning to Wellington yesterday I was present and watched both Fiona and Paul represent Hutt BC proudly, in the womens pairs and mens singles. Although the media reports stated that Fiona and her pairs partner Dale Lang both giggled their way to the pairs Final, it was their steely determination to win that provided them with their success, the fact that they showed enjoyment while doing so made their effort even more meritorious (sorry i don't have spell check). Dale commented to me that Fee had played "like a machine during the tournament and regularly peppered the kitty with her draw play". I did not have the pleasure of watching the Semis and Final but in the quarter final, against Ann Muir who played brillantly, Fiona showed great composure to draw very close shots in the last 3 ends which assisted greatly in the girls winning a nail biter. For a second year bowler she is already showing both the ability and mental aptitude to achieve many more successes in Bowls.
As for Paul he was unlucky to have drawn Richard Collett first up in the last 16, Richard was clearly the best player of the 16 on the green. After a slow start Paul really hit form and both players turned on a great exhibition of bowls, both drawing and driving brillantly. Richard Collett continued his form into the remaining matches beating Gary Lawson 21-4 and eventually winning the Mens Singles Final. From all reports Paul played brillantly to make the last 16 but unfortunately struck a player on the day going even better.
It was a pleasure to watch both Fiona and Paul play so well and both in the best forms of sportsmanship, all members of Hutt BC should be very proud of their performance.
With Paul and Fiona's current form and with the recent success of the Womens four it looks like a great year for Hutt BC to be holding the 2009/10 Nationals. Here's hoping for similar success in next years Nationals.
Good Bowling and more success for Hutt BC in 2010. Laurie Guy.

Maroochy Swan Group 2008 Briefing Session |

Expect to see more of this logo about through the 2008/2009 Season. The Management Committee has resolved on the recommendation of the Manager Bowls to replace the "Speed Bowls" programme with Mates in Bowls, the Bowls NZ franchised programme. It would not be too early to commence recruiting business house teams. The MiB season will commence towards the end of October.
