Hutt city musical theatre

Auditions for “Grease” will be held at the theatre corner Oxford Terrace & Mitchell St, Lower Hutt on 19 & 20 July. Rehearsals will run from 29 July to 28 October and the show dates are 30 October to 8 November.

The director is looking for a cast of around 26 from age 16 on up.

“Grease” is a high energy show and all cast will be expected to be able to sing, dance and act to a high standard. An understanding of Rock N Roll dance would be advantageous.

Leads will be expected to be able to show previous experience in other shows.

Betty Rizzo	Lead	17 +	Mezzo		Leader of the Pink Ladies. She is tough, sarcastic and outspoken but vulnerable. Thin, Italian, with unconventional good looks
Frenchy	Lead	17 +	Soprano		A Pink Lady who can't wait to finish high school so she can be a beautician. She eventually drops out of school to enter Beauty School. She is extremely attentive to her appearance, well meaning and an airhead. Has a character voice. A dreamer. Good-natured and dumb. Heavily made-up, fussy about her appearance-particularly her hair.
Marty	Cameo	16 +	Alto		The "beauty" of the Pink Ladies. Pretty, looks older than the other girls, but betrays her real age when she opens her mouth. Immature but tries to act sophisticated.
Jan	Supporting	16 +	Mezzo		Chubby, compulsive eater. Loud and pushy with the girls, but shy with boys.
Burger Palace Boys (5)	Chorus	16 +		Intense	A super-cool, D.A.-haired, hard- looking group of high school wheeler-dealers. ..or so they think
Kenickie	Lead	19 +	Baritone	Medium	Second-in-command of the Burger Palace Boys. Tough-looking, tattooed, surly, avoids any show of softness. Has an off-beat sense of humour and a car fanatic
Doody	Supporting	16 +	Tenor		Youngest of the guys. Small, boyish, open, with a disarming smile and a hero-worshipping attitude toward the other guys. He also plays the guitar.
Roger	Supporting	16 +	Tenor		A jolly, prankster member of the Burger Palace Boys who enjoys 'mooning' people. The "anything-for-a-laugh" stocky type. Full of mischief, half-baked schemes and ideas. A clown who enjoys putting other people on.
Sonny	Cameo	17 +	Tenor		Italian-looking, with shiny black hair and dark oily skin. A braggart and wheeler-dealer who thinks he's a real lady- killer
OTHER ROLES
Patty	Cameo	18 +		Intense	A typical cheerleader at a middle-class American public high school. Attractive and athletic. Aggressive, sure of herself, given to bursts of disconcerting enthusiasm. Catty, but in an All-American Girl sort of way. She can also twirl a baton.
Cha-Cha	Cameo	17 +	Soprano		A blind date. Slovenly, loud-mouthed and homely. Takes pride in being "the best dancer at St. Bernadette's."
Eugene Florczyk	Cameo	18 +			The class valedictorian. Physically awkward, with weak eyes and a high-pitched voice. An apple-polisher, smug and pompous but gullible.
Vince Fontaine	Cameo	35 +			An egotistical radio disk jockey who is attracted to teenage girls. A typical "teen audience" radio disc jockey. Slick, egotistical, fast-talking. A veteran "greaser."
Johnny Casino	Cameo	18 +	Baritone		A "greaser" student at Rydell who leads a rock 'n' roll band and likes to think of himself as a real rock 'n' roll idol.
Teen Angel	Cameo	27 +	Baritone		A good-looking falsetto-voiced, Fabian-look-alike. A singer who would have caused girls to scream and riot back in 1958.
Miss Lynch	Cameo	40 +		Some	An old maid English teacher.
