2008 Season
At its October meeting, the Committee approved plans for our 2008 season. This promises to be an exciting year for us as for the first time in many years; we plan to be staging a major musical.
In the Summertime
The season will kick off with a revue called “In the Summertime” featuring hit songs from the 1950’s to the 1980’s. Planning is already well and truly underway for this show and auditions will be held on 27 January. Rehearsals will start on 29 January and will run through until 28 April. The show will open on 1 May and will run for two weeks, with the possibility of a third week if ticket sales warrant.
We are looking for a cast of around 30 – 35 and in particular we need people with Rock & Roll experience, both dancing and singing. Age range is from 11 on up. Both male and female cast are wanted.
A copy of the audition notice is already on the web site at
www.huttcity.com/hcmt. Advertising will appear in both the Hutt News and Upper Hutt Leader during the week of 21 January and a poster advertising the audition will be put up on the Society’s noticeboard in the next week or so.
Cast wishing to audition will need to be prepared to audition as part of a group and if requested to sing solo. The audition will consist of a song(s) from the show as well as a dance routine. Further auditions for individual roles will be conducted once the rehearsal gets underway.
Grease
The society has negotiated with Dominie for the rights to stage the musical “Grease” in the second half of the year. However, because of the high costs of staging the show a final decision will not be made to proceed until the financial results of “In the Summertime” are known.
If we do proceed, then a pre-audition meeting will be held for those wishing to audition on 13 July at the hall. Auditions will be over the weekend 19 & 20 July. Rehearsals will commence on 29 July and will run through until 28 October. The show will open on 30 October and will run for two weeks, again if ticket sales warrant, we will look at a third week.
We will be auditioning for a total of 35 cast, both male and female, with an age range between 16 and 30. There are a couple of roles for older cast and we will consider using older cast for chorus roles.

Off Stage Roles
Both shows represent a major effort by the society and the Production Team and Committee cannot be expected to carry out all the work on their own. We need a team of volunteers who are prepared to assist with set and prop building, wardrobe, makeup, set decoration, front of house, lighting & sound. During the actual performances, we will also need back stage crews and dressers, or to put in another way, for every person on stage we need approximately one person behind the scenes making sure that things happen.
